AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS
SPORTS AT ESKDALE ACADEMY
We are delighted to confirm that we have been named a YST Gold Quality Mark school, as well as winning a Sainsbury's School Games Gold Award.
At Eskdale Academy we believe that P.E is an essential part of the development and education of every child that helps create and sustain a healthy school environment. We believe that all children should participate in P.E as it helps develop their physical competence, confidence and physical skills, promoting positive attitudes towards healthy active lifestyles and a range of areas in physical activity. P.E applies to all children in school, regardless of age, gender, race and faith and is inclusive to children of all abilities, developing the child in socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically and intellectually.
Our aim in P.E is to provide physical activities for all children, covering a variety of gymnastics, dance, multi-sports, invasion games and athletics lessons. Additionally, we provide access to swimming lessons in Year 3 with additional swimming intervention to those children who have not achieved the National Curriculum expectation of swimming 25m. In Addition, we deliver Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (Orienteering) to Key Stage 2 and encourage full participation in a wide range of after school clubs that are made available in school.
We do this by teaching two 60 minute lessons of high quality P.E a week to all Years. Planning, delivering and assessing all areas of the PE Curriculum, linking to the bigger picture of a ‘Healthy Active Lifestyle’. Providing a range of after school clubs and delivering activities at playtime and lunchtimes. Establishing links with local sports clubs in the area and promoting holiday opportunities for keeping the children active.
