Transition from Primary to Secondary School

Dear Parents/Carers,

Transition from Primary to Secondary School

Transition from primary to secondary school is very important for young people. All Hartlepool schools work closely together to make this successful and key to this process are induction days in July. These enable young people to visit their secondary school, meet their new class and teachers and become familiar with the new buildings and routines. All schools are very keen to ensure that they go ahead this year. For these days to take place safely in the current situation requires careful planning.

Following discussion with schools, it has been agreed that:

· Secondary schools will plan for face-to-face induction days to take place for current Year 6 pupils on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th July. This is a change to the date you may previously have been told and is designed to mitigate risk by allowing a weekend before pupils mix again in their primary school bubbles;

· Schools will, supported by the Local Authority, carry out separate robust risk assessments for the induction days to keep pupils safe;

· Arrangements will be reviewed nearer the time in light of any new government guidance and local infection rates.

I want to reassure you that the local authority and all Hartlepool schools are working together to ensure the safety and successful transition of all our young people.

Yours sincerely
