Painting a Foundation Stone
Painting Foundation Stones at Home to mark the liberation of Bergen-Belsen
Big Ideas invites you to paint a stone to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on 15th April by taking part in Foundation Stones at Home. Your Foundation Stones will become part of the new UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre. British Forces liberated the camp and a huge British relief effort was mounted which saved thousands of lives. Most involved never found the words to describe what they experienced. Now we can remember this British story and the contributions of those involved, as we remember those who were murdered in the Holocaust and all other victims of Nazi persecution. Your painted stone will become part of the new UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre in London, which will tell the story of Bergen-Belsen.Dr Virginia Crompton,
CEO of Big Ideas, says: “We are urging everyone who's previously taken part in projects with us to get involved. We are delighted that today the Army Cadets is launching Foundation Stones for Belsen75 among their network of fantastic young people. Join them to build a meaningful commemorative moment to remember this British story”.
Share your stone via social media using #Belsen75 and #FoundationStonesAtHome and tag a friend who you would like to see take part. Remember, you don’t have to be an artist to take part – every stone is unique and is a personal contribution to the new UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre.
