Speech & Language Provision

Eskdale Academy Speech and Language Resource Base is designed to support children with specific speech and language needs. We are a KS1 base, with children staying with us for up to 2 years. Children will attend their Home School alongside our base, spending 3 afternoons there per week.

The children accessing the class will have:

  • Access to a high support, inclusive classroom
  • Opportunities to develop socially through continuous provision and adult led opportunities
  • Specialist support through small group teaching and therapy

The approach is one that is flexible and responsive to the individual needs of each child. The aim of the resource base is to support and increase:

  • Independent learning
  • Strategies to overcome specific difficulties
  • Access to an inclusive mainstream education

The class has provision for 10 children. Staff work closely with speech therapists, who guide and personalise the provision for each child. Pupils are collected from home on a morning and then returned either to their home at the end of the day (Monday & Wednesday), or to their home school after lunch (Tuesday, Thursday & Friday). The bus service is arranged and financed by the home school in collaboration with Hartlepool Borough Council.
