After School Clubs
At Eskdale Academy, we ensure that our pupils have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra curricular activities during their time at school — from sport, music and drama to personal development and wellbeing. We believe that there are a whole range of benefits that come from involvement in these activities. Depending on the children’s interests, they may provide the chance to get outside and exercise, pursue a hobby, develop a passion or simply de-stress and refresh their mind. Being part of these groups or teams also provides a sense of belonging, with the extra curricular activities offering an opportunity for our children to interact and socialise with others with similar interests and potentially build friendships outside of their usual circle.

During term time, the A.S.C. presently runs from 3:15 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. At present, the A.S.C. does not operate during school holidays.
The After School Club provides a wide range of recreational activities which include:
- Art and Craft Board Games
- Physical games both inside and out
- Television and video games (X Box/Playstation)
- Books and listening activities
- Children have the choice of doing their homework at the club if they would like to.
Meals and Snacks
While at the club, children are given a light snack and a drink. We will take into account any special dietary requirements that need to be met.
Equal Opportunities Policy
>This document sets out our club’s policy. It is important that everyone fully understands the operation of the policy and that all staff accept responsibility for its overall effectiveness. This policy will be given to all staff, management and parents as part of an induction procedure.
Aims of the policy
As a team we aim to challenge discrimination in all areas of our club and to incorporate equal opportunities into all areas of our work.
We aim:
- To increase awareness within the club of the needs of those who face discrimination.
- he affects of discrimination in society in general.
- To consider equal opportunities in all areas of our services and work.
- To consider incorporating specific activities to promote equality of opportunity.
- To take into account the differing interests/needs of male and female club members
We recognise that certain groups or individuals in our society are discriminated against because of their race, colour, ethnic or national origin, gender, physical, sensory or mental disability, marital status, whether they are a lesbian or a gay man, age, social class, religious belief, employment status or if they are HIV+.
We are strongly committed to positive action to remove and/or deal with discrimination in all aspects of our work; in our practise as employers and in all our work with children, families and others.
Language or behaviour that is to be offensive to any of the groups outlined in our policy is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the club. It is our aim to deal with inappropriate language or behaviour at the clubs in accordance with the whole school behaviour policy.
This equal opportunities policy will be reviewed regularly and monitored for effectiveness.
Health and Safety Policy
The After School Club has a duty to maintain health, safety and welfare standards. This responsibility extends to all staff, volunteers and anyone using the club. This policy explains all the measures that need to be taken to achieve this.
Activities
- Any activity should always be planned with an appropriate level of supervision.
- Any activity involving dangerous or potentially dangerous equipment (i.e. cooking, crafts, etc) should have constant supervision.
- If children are playing outside the building, there should be at least one member of staff with them at all times.
- Dangerous behaviour by the children should be discouraged at all times.
Fire Drill
- There should be a fire drill at least once a month. This should be recorded on a relevant checklist.
- It is the club managers responsibility that all staff know and understand the fire drill.
- Staff should not smoke on the school premises or grounds.
Accidents
- All accidents must be recorded in the accident book.
- The club should have a first aid box which is always well stocked.
- Any special medical needs should be recorded.
- Any medicines to be taken by the child, will only be given to them on the written authority of the child’s parent or carer.
- At least one member of staff should be first aid trained.
Major Accidents
- Call an ambulance giving details of the injury, the location of the club and the name of the child.
- Call the child’s parents or carer.
- If the child’s parent or carer has not arrived at the club by the time the ambulance is ready to leave, then a member of staff must accompany the child to the hospital.
Behaviour Policy
This policy was drawn up to encourage co-operative behaviour between the children that attend the After School Club. The club’s behaviour system is based on positive reinforcement and good rewards.
Behavioural Expectations
- All children are expected to behave properly at the club.
- Club staff will try to ensure that no particular group or individuals are associated with particular behaviour on the basis of gender, race, religion or class.
- Positive behaviour will be encouraged by noticing and praising good or kind behaviour.
Our Aims
- Positive rewards for good behaviour.
- A clear set of rules which are consistently applied.
- A clear set of consequences for breaking these rules which are consistently applied by the staff.
- Every child starts the day with a clean slate.
- Parents are involved in the positive points and informed of the behaviour of their child on a regular basis.
Children should be encouraged not to hit back, but to report being hit to a member of staff, so that aggressive behaviour can be challenged.
To achieve acceptable behaviour:
- Clear limits must be set.
- If limits are broken, the following procedures will be consistently used in the A. S. C.
- Give child a quiet one to one warning and re-define the limits.
- If limits are broken, give child a further one to one warning and
- re-define the limits.
- If the limits are broken, we will write the child’s name in the behaviour book and the nature of the behaviour. This will be reported to parents and a member of the school leadership team.
We operate an open-door policy at the A. S. C. and parents are invited to discuss concerns about any aspect of their child’s behaviour.
Complaints Procedure
The After School Club aims to provide a high quality and accessible service to parents and children.
Occasionally, a parent or child may feel that they have a complaint against some aspect of the club, or an individual member of staff. Usually it is possible to resolve any problems as soon as they occur. If not, then you should follow the complaints procedure set out below:
Stage One
First – put your complaint in writing to the club co-ordinator. Full details should be given letting us know what it is you are unhappy about.
Second – we will acknowledge your complaint as soon as possible and fully investigate the matter within seven days. We will keep you up to date about what is happening and give you a full reply.
The response you will receive will be copied to the staff members concerned, with recommendations for any action to be taken. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can ask the co-ordinator to refer the matter to the next stage.
Stage Two
The club coordinator will refer the complaint and the response to the management committee. The committee will investigate the complaint together with the response at a convened meeting.
The management committee will send a reply within fourteen days outlining how the complaint has been investigated and detailing the outcome.
Stage Three
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the management committee you are able to take the matter to the next stage.
This can be done by referring your complaint and the outcome to:
Under 8’s Registration Officer
1 Tees Street
Hartlepool
TS24 8HB
Telephone number: 01429 266522
The decision of the registration committee is final.
